The Children’s Oral Health Problem
“Dental caries (tooth decay) is the single most common chronic childhood disease – 5 times more common than asthma and 7 times more common than hay fever. More than 51 million school hours are lost each year to dental--‐related illness*”. Pain and suffering due to untreated diseases can lead to problems in eating, speaking, learning, and socializing.

Early Intervention Is Crucial
At Pediatric Dental Associates, we believe that both oral health education and dental screenings in our offices or at community or school settings will help every child’s overall health and well being. If each child is seen regularly by his or her first birthday, we can help prevent serious dental disease and make a difference.
Our Education Programs
At Pediatric Dental Associates, we place a high priority on education both for our patients and the community that they contact. To show our commitment, we:
- Provide oral health education programs in classrooms, day care centers, Head Start programs and in our waiting rooms
- Train health care professionals and educators to teach parents and children about oral health
- Educate primary care physicians so they can implement oral health assessments during well child visits, including applying fluoride varnish
Dental Screenings
Beyond education, we demonstrate our commitment to children by providing oral health screenings at day care centers, Head Start programs, and schools.
