Post Natal Information: The Newborn Child
If the pediatric dentist has not been able to meet with the mother while pregnant, the next step is to access the parent via the pediatrician. The pediatrician is usually the first person questioned by the parent about the status of their child's teeth. Unfortunately, the pediatrician is only briefly educated about the oral needs of children and the timing of treating children.
The pediatric dentist assumes responsibility to be available and to advise and inform the pediatrician and parents about the child's oral health. A close relationship between the pediatrician and the pediatric dentist should ensue, which will provide a team needed for the total health of the child.
