Why are Baby Teeth Important?

Dentist Examines Young ChildBaby teeth usually begin to erupt at the age of six months. Some of these teeth will remain in your child's mouth until the age of twelve. Therefore, it is extremely important to take good care of them as early as possible.

Healthy teeth are important for your child's overall health because:

  • Chewing food helps to develop bones and muscle
  • Children learn to speak more easily when their teeth are present
  • A healthy smile will give your child a good self image

Baby teeth save space for permanent teeth and allow them to grow in straight. Unhealthy teeth can cause pain and sleepless nights for both the parent and child. A dental infection in a child can become severe enough for hospitalization and in some cases, if untreated, can be life threatening.
