Pediatrician's Guide to Oral Health
The oral health of children is the primary responsibility of the parents/guardian. Young children do not have the dexterity to effectively remove the plaque that forms on their teeth, nor do they have the knowledge or understanding that goes along with successful home care.
Parents must be aware of the necessity of removing food and bacteria from their child's teeth effectively, as soon as the first tooth appears in the mouth. They must be taught that the primary teeth are the precursors for the future of the permanent dentition.
In order to have a healthy life, prevention is the key. Preventative information is one of the most important services that a pediatric dentist can offer parents and parents-to-be. As pediatric dentists we are not only treating the children, but the parents as well.
