Temple University Hospital/Episcopal Division - Dental Residency Program
Program Objectives
This program is designed to develop dentists who fulfill the requirements for Advance Specialty Education Programs in Pediatric Dentistry designated by the American Dental Association. Emphasis is placed on preparation of Pediatric Dentistry specialists who fulfill the criteria for examination by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry to include the following:
- Develop competency in the prevention and management of oral-facial health problems of children and adolescents. Develop the ability to provide comprehensive oral health care for emotionally, mentally, or physiologically disabled patients.
- Provide an understanding of the biological basis for Pediatric Dentistry and the application of scientific knowledge to clinical practice.
- Develop an understanding of research principles, knowledge of published literature, the ability to critically evaluate research literature, and to make a contribution in the advancement of Pediatric Dentistry.
- Develop creativity, the desire for new skills and the ability to coordinate with members of other health care disciplines to provide innovative care for pediatric dental patients.
- Develop practical administrative skills to provide efficient provision of dental health care.
- Develop educational and teaching skills to prepare for assignments as mentors in education programs.
Specific Objectives
Graduates of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at Temple University Hospital/Episcopal Division are expected to have developed technical and didactic skills that are commensurate with the specialty of Pediatric Dental Graduate education.
